Peer Educator Program
Peer Training Model
The Peer Educator Model extends the reach of CaptainSocialGuard by training selected students to help deliver safety messaging to their peers, under adult supervision. Peer-led reinforcement increases engagement and message retention beyond what adult-led sessions alone achieve, and allows the program to sustain itself locally between direct visits, supporting the initiative's scalability beyond any single classroom or district.

- Open application process within each participating school, coordinated with the faculty sponsor
- Eligibility based on good standing with the school and willingness to complete training
- Parental consent required before a student may participate as a peer educator
- Faculty sponsor retains final approval over selected students
Training Curriculum
- Core content: safe social media use, recognizing manipulation and predatory contact, cyberbullying response
- Boundaries of the role: peer educators share prepared safety messages and point students to trusted adults; they do not counsel peers on personal situations or handle disclosures themselves
- Escalation protocol: any disclosure of harm, abuse, or a struggling peer is referred immediately to the faculty sponsor or designated school staff
- Use of program materials: how to run a club session, use app-linked activities, and present approved content without improvisation on sensitive topics
Delivery Channels
- School safety clubs meeting on a regular schedule, led by peer educators with faculty sponsor/volunteer present
- Morning announcements or bulletin content reinforcing key safety messages
- In-app peer prompts and challenges within CaptainSocialGuard, moderated centrally by program staff
Supervision & Safeguards
- A faculty sponsor/volunteer is present for all in-person peer educator activity; no unsupervised sessions
- Peer educators work only from pre-approved materials; they do not create original safety content
- All app-based peer interactions are moderated by program staff, not peer-to-peer unmoderated messaging
- Any concern about a specific student is escalated to the faculty sponsor and, where appropriate, school counseling staff
Recognition & Incentives
- Certificate of completion for training and service, usable for school service-hour requirements where applicable
- Optional recognition at school assemblies or through the program's community presentations
Measuring Success
- Number of students trained as peer educators per school/district
- Attendance and participation in club sessions
- Pre/post survey results on student awareness of safety topics
- Faculty sponsor/volunteer feedback on program fit and any escalations handled
Role in the Broader Initiative
- Activated during Phase 2 and Phase 3 of the initiative's plan, once an initial pilot has validated the core curriculum
- Reduces dependence on direct staff delivery as the program expands to additional schools, districts, and states
- Supports sustained local presence without proportional growth in program staff
